ARCHIFAX: How the project was born
Our long time design expertise has taught us that processes behind architecture and design present many differences, regardless of the similarities they share. Architecture is unique, a one-off production that lasts much longer in the physical space, has its own sense of scale and symbolizes broader collective aspirations and needs. If architecture is not conceived properly, it might even negatively influence the well-being of people.
Design is lighter in every way: its relation with objects composing living spaces is less controversial. This does not prevent us from putting long-time effort in every project so that lightness and empathy can be conferred to the items designed. Identifying deeply with customers’ expectations is necessary to the extent that you have to conceptualize not only what they do not expect but also what they think they do not need.
Besides the stack of notes, sketches and references, design projects call for great listening skills before prototyping that is one of the most beautiful and exciting phases. We are used to listen attentively to our customers, with whom we strive to develop the necessary intellectual empathy. We also consult with their technical staff, who are experienced about latent problems. Furthermore, we pay close attention to people, their lifestyles and how they relate to one another, which help set the course and provide precious hints as to materials to use also according to their physical and chemical behaviors. Lastly, senses are very important to us as they help understand how creations are perceived, especially in terms of shape and proportions, which contribute to making everyday things easy to use as appealing, vital “life facilitators”.
